How does it work?
BoomerangTag® uses safe QR technology that allows finders to scan the code and return your belongings without having access to any of your details.
All you have to do is tag & register your belongings to your account. Here’s how!
Tag it
Iron On
Follow the instructions included with the tags to apply them to your belongings.
Stick On
Stick them on your belongings like any sticker.
Scan it
If it’s your first BoomerangTag®, you’ll need to make an account before you can register your item.
Each BoomerangTag® is completely unique, so you know exactly what item you have lost and can have different settings on each code. It does mean you need to register each item (which only takes ~15 seconds!).
Once you’ve tagged your item, scan the BoomerangTag® with your phone camera (like any QR code) and click to follow the link. Register your belongings & you’re done - you can forget about it unless you need to find it!
Find it
When someone finds your lost item, they simply scan the QR code to find out how to return it to you. The contact details and information they can see are totally controlled by you (name, email, phone or a custom message). You don't have to share anything and they can still send you a note through Boomerang® via the big orange "Found me?" button.
Manage what information finders see when scanning the code by default. You may want your passport to be different to your water bottle! Simply click 'Manage' from the home screen to control what individual products show.
The research
A study dropped wallets with contact details across 40 countries (355 cities, 17,000 wallets) and found wallets with money were returned over half (51%) of the time - almost double the expected rate. In the UK the return rate was even higher at 60%!
You'd expect the return rate to be very low without any contact details to help finders return the wallets.
Watch when the BBC dropped 10 wallets around Belfast with contact details in, how many do you think were returned?
A case study
You've tagged and registered your headphones case - a good choice.
When setting up you can choose to either share or not share any contact information for them.
Now, imagine you left them in a restaurant.
If you do share contact info, a finder (e.g. waiter) scans, sees information (any of name, phone, email or custom message) and is able to return to you.
If you do not share any information the finder scans and sees an orange "Found me?" button. Using this button they can send you a note through Boomerang such as: "Headphones left with us at restaurant. With reception, please collect."
With this simple process, no personal information has been shared by anyone and the item has been returned.
Circularity & durability
Our tags are designed to last. Made from highly durable materials, they withstand years of wear and tear while enabling a circular approach as items can be re-registered to new owners instead of being lost or wasted.
Data responsibility & privacy
Boomerang® complies with UK data protection laws and is a registered data controller. We promise never to sell ordistribute customer data, only collecting what’s necessary to keep belongings safe.
The most we need is an email address for you for a BoomerangTag® to work.
